Porto: Best Photo Locations for Couples and Tips You Can’t miss

Igreja Do Carmo

There are 3 famous blue churches and this is one of them, right in the main square near the famous Library. We came a few times to take different photos and it’s not a very busy place so you don’t really need to come here early like Church of the souls.

Tip: To get the photo you can cross the street and wait for the cars to pass!

Livraria Lello

The famous Harry Potter library in Porto! Where you need to queue for hours and pay a very high price for it! It’s 5€ pp or 12€ pp if you want to come before the crowds. We decided not to enter this time as it was too expensive for us.

As you may have seen on J. K. Rowling Twitter said a few months ago that she has never visited the library or get inspired on it! So we will never know.

Church de las almas

By far the most famous spot! and also quite busy as it’s right in the middle of the main shopping avenue. This place is so photogenic that you don’t even need any tips! Just be aware the best time is after lunch to get the right light and be patient with people and the cars.

Candy Land street

A not so famous (yet) spot in Porto, we came here 3-4 times at different times and never saw anyone, but it could’ve been due to Covid.

It’s a very beautiful corner with some colorful houses together where neighbors get together in the evening to talk and have a great time!

Remember to not leave without checking the church and the lookout on the little street on the left!

Tip: Come in the morning as it’s busy in the evening of full of chairs!

River side

A little street by the river full of bars, restaurants and live music at night! we came every night for a walk and we tried the last bar next to the bridge for a glass of wine, it wasn’t that expensive for where it is located.

Tip: If you want to save some money, go to the last corner where all the restaurants end and you can enjoy a picnic! We brought some food here and had a lovely time!

Half Bunny

To get to the Half Bunny you will need to cross to Gaia, the other side. Gaia is bigger and there are more bars and pubs with some music.

If you keep walking on one of the little streets you will find the street art of the half bunny made of trash and recycle materials on a very old house!

Secret Corner Lookout

We named the lookout Secret Corner as not many people know it exists as it’s not a proper lookout but it has one of the best views of Porto!

You just need to cross the bridge and take the first left, you will start walking up the hill and then take the first left too and right before that streets ends there’s a grass path that takes nowhere, that’s it!

You can also check my location on Google map for a better explanation. When we went it was a bit dirty but it was nice to stay there for a while.

Colorful houses by the river

If you keep walking to the other side following the classic Porto’s train you will start looking at colorful houses, each one more beautiful that the previous one! We discovered as it was 1 min from our Airbnb and enjoyed walking in the morning here. It’s also the way to the Park Da Quinta.

Tip: If you wait a little bit you will be able to take a photo with the train and the houses.

Iglesia de San Ildefonso

It’s a beautiful church worth visiting as it’s not crowd and the detailed blue tiles will take your breath away.

Parque Da Quinta Da Macieirinha

The park it’s a bit far from the city center but if you have time and like to walk you can go there, it’s a very big park for events, picnics and kids. If you go to the end of it you will find the iconic view of the river and the bridge. It’s Porto’s favorite place for sunset!

You can get there following the river for 40mins and then up up! or walking through the city that will take you around 25mins

Passeio Das Fontainhas

The last place in our list was the famous lookout that is temporarily (or permanently) closed and it’s falling into pieces and it’s being fixed but it’s been closed for over a year so don’t know if it will open again or not.

It’s a very long way so if you are planning on taking a photo on the famous lookout forget about it! But if you still want to come I’d recommend if stop in the parking right after the castle wall as there are some small lookouts with a nice view too!
